Boxer and trainer Stacy “Goodnight” Goodson may not be a well-known fighter, as evidenced by his professional boxing record (37-37-2, 20 KOs). But the man behind the State of Boxing radio show do knows the ins and outs of boxing and tells them as he sees them. This writer had a good chat with Mr. Goodson and here are some of the things he made clear.

On why Antonio Margarito will be an easy fight for Manny Pacquiao

Freddie Roach knows something that we don’t. If he says Pacquiao will beat Margarito, there’s an 80% it’s going to be correct. Margarito has been on a long lay-off. He was less active while Pacquiao went on the rise and became the superstar that he is today. Momentum is with Pacquiao. If I were to predict how the fight will go down, I’d say Pacquiao by stoppage.

On Margarito’s license issues

Let the man fight. He has served his time. He has lost millions. The only people making lots of noise are those who are not crime scene investigators. Only speculators and their speculations.

On Mayweather and Don King teaming up

I think it’s one of the best things ever to happen in boxing, at least in terms of arranging Pacquiao-Mayweather. Negotiations failed twice. If there is one man in the world who can bring us that fight, it would have to Don King.

On Pacquiao-Mayweather

It needs to happen. I don’t if it will happen, but it needs to. With Don King now in the big picture, my guess is that it will happen sooner than later my friend.

If you are going to ask me who wins between Pacquiao or Mayweather, I am going to stick with Manny. Mayweather might be better than Manny in almost every department, but like I said, it’s kinda hard to go against Freddie Roach. That man’s a genius, a genuine Sweet Scientist and if he says his fighter will beat this guy, then there is a huge chance of that is going to happen.

But being an American and Floyd is viewed by many as the Last Great Hope in American boxing, because we don’t have any heavyweights to offer, I would also love to see Mayweather win. But either way, Pacquiao-Mayweather will be a good fight and if that happens, I will buy the PPV.
