Floyd Mayweather’s timing to make his first his public statement in months was no accident.

Mayweather did not make a statement when negotiations were announced for Mayweather-Pacquiao.

He did not make a statement when the megafight died with a contract on the table unsigned, or when Arum announced he would look to Antonio Margarito as a replacement while still leaving the door open for Mayweather.

Mayweather waited until that door was closed and Manny Pacquiao was safely behind it, only then did he make a statement.

In a racist, homophobic, ignorant tirade made on a webcam, Mayweather finally had his fighting words, after letting opportunity to fight pass with nary a word.

Some of the highlights of the video have Mayweather calling Pacquiao a “whore” and a “midget”, referring to Pacquaio as Poochaio and noting that “As soon as we come off vacation, we’re going to cook that little yellow chump … So they ain’t gotta worry about me fighting the midget … Once I stomp the midget, I’ll make that make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice.”

Mayweather rallied off a litany of off-color names to describe Pacquiao, the most ironic of the names was “yellow”, a derogatory term in reference to skin color.

Mayweather’s rant took the easy route of focusing on the obvious: Pacquiao’s size, culture and features.

Mayweather steered away from the things he could not touch: Pacquiao’s heart, conviction, skill and willingness to fight.

Pacquiao has never been afraid to hit and he has never been afraid to be hit.

With this latest hit, Pacquiao could have said many things. He could have called into question Mayweather’s desire to fight or his lack of a statement when a fight could have been made.

Pacquiao’s statement, through his publicist Fred Sternburg was simple, direct, no frills.

“The video speaks for itself.”

The five-word statement spoke volumes more than Mayweather’s lengthy diatribe.

It spoke more about Mayweather than it did about Pacquiao.

Mayweather has only his words to hide behind now that the option of fists has been taken away. Those words are dirty because they are the words of a desperate man who has too little, too late.

Pacquiao’s words were confident, he made all the moves he could to get Mayweather in the ring and backed Mayweather out of it.

Pacquiao knows what he won’t say, that he is not yellow, that is an adjective reserved for someone unprincipled, unethical, and more importantly craven.

Yellow is an adjective reserved for Floyd Mayweather.
