MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum said Manny Pacquiao’s reaction to the emotional ordeal of former foe Ricky Hatton of Britain showed the kind of person the Filipino champ is.

Arum, who himself is grieving over the recent death of his son, said Pacquiao showed his good character by cheering Hatton up amid the Brit’s reported booze and drug problems.

"That is the kind of guy that Manny is," he said in a report posted on Boxing Scene.com.

Arum, head honcho of Top Rank Inc., promotes Pacquiao's fights.

Pacquiao earlier said he hopes Hatton will rebound from the depression he is going through.

“I feel sad because of what happened. Sana magbago na siya,” said Pacquiao while training at the Elorde Gym in Quezon City on Tuesday. (Click here for related story).

Hatton reportedly got hooked to drugs and alcohol after losing to Pacquiao in May 2009 via a second-round knockout.

“Don't tell God that you have a great problem but tell your problem that you have a great God,” said the Filipino.

The story about Hatton’s alleged drug use spread after “News of the World” released footage of the British boxer supposedly using "industrial quantities" of the drug during a marathon 10-hour drinking session.
