Floyd Mayweather Jr. was arrested on Friday for suspicion of grand larceny after allegedly stealing his ex-girlfriend's iPhone. According to Ken Ritter of the Associated Press, Mayweather's former girlfriend, Jose Harris, filed for a restraining order due to her claim that Mayweather pulled her hair, punched her in the head and twisted her arm.

The alleged altercation is said to have occurred at 5:00 am on Thursday morning at the home where Harris resides with the ex-couple's three children.

In the request for a restraining order, Harris wrote, "He yelled and screamed that he was going to kill me and my boyfriend. Floyd has threatened to have other people do harm to me as well and if (there) is a way I can be protected from that please help me."

Las Vegas Police verified that Harris was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. The nature of the injuries was not specified.

Mayweather was in the news earlier this month for releasing a vulgar and racially charged video in which he degraded Filipino boxing superstar, Manny Pacquiao. He released another video the following day and issued an apology for anyone that he may have offended.

It goes without saying that Mayweather's behavior on the first video was despicable and unprovoked. The video itself leaves no room to doubt his misbehavior in that particular case.

Cliff Garrigus of Rogers, Arkansas referred to the infamous video when he told this writer; "The guy is a disgrace to people in general, and he's obviously an idiot."

The recent reports of Mayweather's arrest on Friday led HBO Sports President, Ross Greenburg to tell The Las Angeles Times that Floyd Mayweather "...has got to get his life in order."

"This gives me pause. I've known Floyd for many years, and we've showcased him several times on [HBO's reality series] "24/7," with people engaged by his personality," Greenburg said. "Now people are repelled by his personality. I hope he can learn from these terrible mistakes. Someone has to do an intervention with him."

While it is undoubtedly true that Mayweather's life appears to be spinning completely out of control, it is also true that in this country, he must be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

It is not the intention of this writer to defend Mayweather. That burden falls upon his lawyer. I have been openly critical of Mayweather's antics on more occasions than I can remember, but I've no intention of condemning him when there is no certainty of his guilt.

Jason Harris of Garfield, in reference to the grand larceny allegations, said; "It'll be a shame if he goes down for this."

While Manny Pacquiao's humble and dignified persona have led to his reputation of being one of the nicest guys in the sport, Mayweather's over-the-top, belligerent and arrogant behavior has led to his reputation of being boxing's bad-boy. However, no matter how disgusting his behavior may be to the public, his right to a fair trial cannot be denied.

Just as Manny Pacquiao must be considered innocent of all accusations of performance enhancing drug use, Mayweather must also be considered innocent until proven guilty.
